The Early Interventionist/Early Childhood Special Educator (EI/ECSE) Standards represent the first standards to focus specifically on the preparation of professionals who work with young children ages birth through 8 who have or are at-risk for developmental delays and disabilities and their families, across home, classroom and community settings.
Through both small and large group activities participants will be introduced to the EI/ECSE Standards and how they may utilize them as a framework for personnel preparation, including both pre-service and ongoing professional development (PD) as well as for state/territory level applications (e.g, certification requirements). We will share resources to support use of the EI/ECSE Standards and engage participants in dialogue related to the implementation of the EI/ECSE Standards based on their professional role.
This session is free to attend but advance registration is required.

DEC is sponsoring a new initiative to support the dissemination and use of the EI/ECSE
Standards within states and territories. A pilot program will identify through an application
process a Standards Ambassador(s) for each of a small number of states/territories. Initially, the
primary audience within each state/territory will be higher education faculty. The program will
be modeled after the Recommended Practices (RPs) Ambassador program. This preconference
workshop will provide an overview of the training for and implementation of the Standards
Ambassadors program, initial thoughts as to how the Standards Ambassador initiative might be
similar and different from the RPs Ambassador model, and participant input on the organization
and structure of the Standards Ambassador program through small group brainstorming and large
group discussion. Standards resources that Ambassadors might use will be highlighted. If you are
interested in learning about this program and/or maybe applying to be a Standards Ambassador,
this workshop is for you!
This session is free to attend but advance registration is required.
